About Phase 1 of the Far East Freeway projects

As the first in a series of projects to improve I-70 in eastern Franklin County, this project will improve the I-70/I-270 interchange on the far east side of Columbus. The project includes a new directional ramp from I-270 south to I-70 east, reconfigured ramps from I-270 north to I-70 east and Brice Road, and an additional lane on I-70 east between I-270 and Brice Road.

The next phases of the Far East Freeway projects will widen I-70 west between Brice Road and I-270, reconstruct the ramp from I-70 west to I-270 north, and improve the Brice Road interchange. These phases do not yet have a tentative construction date.

About the Far East Freeway projects

The Far East Freeway Study is a series of transportation improvements to address the growing regional travel demand between downtown Columbus and its eastern suburbs.

For the study's purposes, I-70 from Livingston Avenue to the Fairfield/Licking County line is referred to as the Far East Freeway.

The study area is located on the far east side of Franklin County in the city of Columbus, the northwest corner of Fairfield County and the southwest corner of Licking County.
